The Outer Worlds: 10 Ways It'll Blow Fallout Out The Water
3. The New And Extremely Cool Stealth System
By the looks of things, Obsidian are doing their upmost to cater to fans of stealth builds. Stealth is a feature that has never been done particularly well in Fallout games. Although it is possible to sneak past enemies and there are some items and perks that increase your sneaking ability, stealth is mostly used for pickpocketing and other thievery, with combat being the most viable option when you come across hostiles.
Outer Worlds has introduced a detailed disguise system that incentivises character builds based around stealth and charisma abilities. All of the ins and outs are yet to be explained, but what we know so far is that characters will be able to enter restricted zones in a disguise and will have a disguise meter. The player’s stealth stats will dictate how long the meter lasts. Once the meter depletes, NPCs will confront the character, but if the character passes a charisma-based speech check, they will talk themselves out of any trouble and refill their disguise meter.
This new feature looks to push the boundaries of stealth mechanics in gaming. Rather than a simple hide and wait approach, Obsidian are opening a new world of possibilities for stealthy RPG builds.
