4. Story
The story for The Walking Dead Game might be a little outrageous. A man convicted of murder awakes out of a car accident to a full-blown apocalypse, and stumbles along to find a little girl, they band together and the rest is history. The duo of Lee and Clementine managed to create one of the most memorable gaming experiences of the year. It was engaging to watch Lee timidly trying to avoid his past. It was engaging to see Clementine adjust to life in the care of Lee and holding on to the hope she would be reunited with her parents. It was engaging to hear the other survivors back-stories and to see what they planned on doing next. It was engaging to see what the apocalypse had done to the other survivors you would come in contact with. Basically, the story was engaging! From the very first episode the story goes to several different places, all of which are interesting and keep you guessing as to where it will go next. Each episode afterwards did not fail to disappoint. Each episode was a new narrative, it kept your choices from previous episodes and the story continued, but every new installment felt new and fresh. It never felt as if you were playing or watching the same thing over and over. Seeing where relationships with other survivors went, wondering what other characters you were going to come into contact with, seeing how your groups plan really ends up, and seeing where Lee and Clementines adventure would end. These were all questions you held throughout the entire story and every one was answered. There was no fear of being dragged out for another season, and although there will be one, you don't feel that cheated from the cliffhanger ending, unlike the TV series. In the TV series there are many episodes where you don't feel like anything happens in the story...at all. The characters just talk in circles and the episode ends with no real ending. The TV show probably doesn't want to throw out all their ideas within just a few episodes, but the game shows you can have tons of development in a short time. Give a definitive ending to a season, you might not have peoples hearts pounding in anticipation for the next season but that doesn't mean we will not watch. If anything we will be happy to see one plot end and be extremely excited to see where the show will go in the next season.
