The Witcher 3: 10 Things You Didn't Know
7. Gwent Was Created In The Bath
Any player of The Witcher 3 will recognise the name “Gwent”. The in-universe card game appeared as a minigame in the series’ third instalment, as well as in the form of a tournament as one of the game’s sidequests, and became immensely popular with fans.
But what you may not have known is that senior gameplay designer Damien Monnier came up with the idea for Gwent’s gameplay whilst soaking in the tub. Baths have always been known as relaxing, but as card-game-inspiring… ? That’s a new one.
Monnier revealed that by the end of his bath, he had created Gwent’s basic ruleset. Considering he was only given one weekend to create an entire game, it is certainly impressive that one bath gave him the foundations of what would eventually become an entire video game in itself.
