This Is How To Resurrect A Dying Video Game
Will This Ever Happen Again?
While Among Us benefitted from a combination of unique forces that was out of InnerSloth’s control, it’s not impossible to think that we may see more resurrections of dead games in the future. With the thousands of game releases every year, it’s more than likely that great games have fallen beneath the radar, waiting for an internet personality or streamer to discover.
However, there have been some Twitter arguments on the legality of broadcasting games. There’s an unspoken agreement between publishers and streamers that people who want to stream and broadcast gameplay can do so, with development teams gaining the free advertisement. There is, however, no legal protection for lets players to broadcast gameplay.
This is a big topic for another time. Still, if publishers try to start raking in cash on streams, it may harm the likelihood of players picking up and broadcasting forgotten games for fear of a lawsuit. Sodapoppin, perhaps jokingly, said that the Among Us developers owed him millions for reviving Among Us, when it may be entirely the other way around.
In the meantime, it seems like only a matter of time before another game grabs the gaming community’s attention. Be it through addictive multiplayer, easy-to-learn gameplay, or internet clout, it’s now easier than ever to revive a dead game.
