Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 5 Gets First Gameplay Trailer

The Birdman's coming back this October.

Were you part of the overwhelmingly influential period of time when the first three Tony Hawk's games dropped? Suddenly everyone knew their Benihanas from their Darkslides, were buying up boards themselves (only to crumple into wounded heaps on the streets) and all-round, it felt like skater culture had its first major resurgence since the 90s nu-metal scene kickstarted (flipped) it all in the first place. Following that third instalment though, the Hawk's games started deviating into more Jackass-like territory, letting you hop off your board, take part in increasingly unrealistic set-pieces like jumping a helicopter between two buildings, and so on. Some fans stuck with the series - Project 8 in particular stood out once again as a marked high-point - whilst others noted the trilogy as a point in time, only revisiting that mindset for EA's spectacular Skate series, which took a far more serious approach to the physics of everything. Now, after many rumours and terribly kept secrets past, The Birdman himself is helping developers Robomodo bring the first 'proper' sequel to the series since THPS 4, essentially doing away with the quirky and tonally sideways spin-offs such as Underground or American Wasteland. Check out the new footage below: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FiDhCCdtMTE What do you think? That sure does look like the original Pro Skater's Hangar level is making a return like it did in 2012's re-skinned THPS HD, but here's hoping the age-old game engine has held up better than the slightly stilted-looking animations and basic game modes present here. Tony Hawks Pro Skater 5 will release October 2nd, 2015 on PS4, PS3, Xbox One and Xbox 360.Let us know in the comments what you make of the trailer, and the series returning in 2015!
