And finally, Gears 5's Hivebusters DLC didn't exactly stand much of a fighting chance, considering it was released 15 months after the base game came out - a game which split the fanbase straight down the middle.

Many came away from Gears 5 disappointed with its campaign's shift to open environments and lackluster multiplayer suite at launch, so didn't even bother paying much attention to Hivebusters' belated release.

But Hivebusters, which focuses on the characters introduced in Gears 5's Escape mode, does a fantastic job fleshing them out while delivering a more linear, straight-forward mini-campaign far away from the main title's divisive semi-open world approach.

Of course Mac, Lahni and Keegan aren't nearly as iconic as the series' mainstays, but they're a likeable trio who the game makes you care about even with its limited scope and larger focus on thrilling action, while the island setting is also a major breath air for the series.

Most Gears fans who played Hivebusters had a blast with it, but so many simply never returned to Gears 5 after the launch period.
