8 Haunting Video Game Stories Most Players Missed
3. The Victor Zsasz Interviews - Batman: Arkham Asylum
There's some absolutely incredible collectible material in the Batman: Arkham games, but does it get any more chilling than the patient interview tapes of psychopathic serial killer Victor Zsasz.
In the tapes, Zsasz - who has murdered at least 20 women in Gotham - is initially interviewed by Dr. Cassidy, where we get some disturbing insight into his mindset, that he believes he's "liberating" the "zombies" he kills from their mundane, grind-driven existence.
From there, Zsasz turns his attention to Dr. Cassidy, revealing that he knows where she lives, before the next tape abruptly begins with a new doctor interviewing Zsasz due to Cassidy going on leave following the previous session.
Cassidy's departure leaves Zsasz despondent that his newest target has escaped his grasp, enough that he eventually breaks out of Arkham, making his way to Cassidy's apartment just as the final tape cuts off.
Now you'd certainly be forgiven for assuming that Zsasz killed Dr. Cassidy, though the Road to Arkham companion comics actually reveal that Batman made it to Dr. Cassidy's apartment just in time and returned Zsasz to Arkham.
Still, that Zsasz was able to escape with relative ease and be back out among the populous is genuinely unnerving.
