8 Haunting Video Game Stories Most Players Missed
2. The Runaway Girl's Final Holotape - Fallout 4
Few video game franchises have fleshed out their wider worlds with supplementary material as exhaustively as Fallout, and while there are many, many horrific tales of pain, suffering, and destitution to be found among the Wasteland, none hits the gut quite like Fallout 4's runaway girl.
In the ranger cabin south of Vault 111, you can find the skeletal remains of a young woman, and nearby there's also a holotape that serves as her crushing final testament to the world.
In the brief tape she explains that her parents kicked her out of the house after she revealed something to them - something "bad" enough that her mother wouldn't even talk to her as she packed her things to leave.
The girl speaks of a man named John who appears to be unknowingly involved in the secret, and so the obvious implication is that she got pregnant out of wedlock.
The girl ends her message by declaring that John might not ever learn the truth, before announcing her fear of sleeping in a grotty cabin, and then devastatingly asking herself, "Will anything ever be right again?"
This girl probably thought that life couldn't possibly get any worse than that, and then the bombs fell. Horrifying.
