What GTA 6 MUST Learn From GTA 5

6. Sillier Isn’t Always Better

GTA has always had a touch of the daft about it. Dip into the archives for a shot of the original to see Hare Krishna monks being mowed down – when they are, the word “Gouranga” pops up on screen. Then, in titles like Vice City, it's possible to play that famous chainsaw scene from Scarface for literally no good reason.

Rockstar introduced a hover bike in GTA Online too. Is it fun and does it work for that mode? Yes and absolutely, but it’d be pretty odd to see things like that added into the main story willy nilly. As much as the jetpack from San Andreas is often cited as essential, it was a one-off treat that somehow fit the game's tone.

6 must be wary of turning down the same dark road that Volition did with Saints Row IV, to be honest. Some of 5's best moments were totally serious and came when characters ditched their own ridiculousness to act like real human beings.

Striking up some balance is gonna be crucial.
