3. Integration With PC - How Far Will They Go?

As a company that made its start in computer hardware, the integration between Xbox and PC has been a sore point for some. Microsoft is already releasing every one of the Xbox Series X's titles on PC, will they go a step further?

The games on the Microsoft store have now seen a full release on Steam and future titles are sure to follow.

Considering how deeply embedded the corporation is into the computing business, they're sure to make money no matter what, but it may come at the expense of cultivating a console fanbase. By making their more accessible on both PC and Steam simultaneously, they're continue to limit reasons to buy the new console. It's possible the games may find their way to the Epic Games Store and GOG as well. This further expands the potential for software sales, but simultaneously reduces the need to own the Series X itself.

On top of this, playing online on PC has always been free. Microsoft recently announced that there will be no changes to Xbox Live Gold. This may inadvertently drive more players away from the Series X as they can avoid paying for multiplayer functionality.

Overall, these business decisions offer choice to consumers, but they don't do the console any favours.
