Zelda: Breath Of The Wild: 10 Best Overworld Bosses
4. Ploymus Mountain's Lynel
Strangely, Lynels aren’t considered bosses by Breath of the Wild. Despite having hit-points in the thousands, with Silver-Maned Lynels having the second-highest health in the game, Breath of the Wild doesn’t mark them as mini-bosses.
The lead-up to Link’s encounter with Ploymus Mountain’s Lynel, however, hypes up players so much that it should be considered boss-level. During the Zora Domain’s quest line, Link must collect twenty shock arrows to defeat Divine Beast Vah Ruta. The electro-phobic Zora race state the closest place to find shock arrows is from the Lynel upon Ploymus Mountain.
Technically, the player can avoid this battle entirely by collecting shock arrows elsewhere. Still, seeing as a Zora History Monument foretells Link will battle the Lynel, it appears like the fight is canonically meant to happen. After a mini-cut-scene that introduces the terrifying monster, the player has the option to treat the encounter like a stealth mission. It is entirely possible to completely avoid the fight by sneaking enough shock arrows into Link’s pockets to face Vah Ruta.
If the player gets caught, they’ll have to experience a gruelling battle where they’ll need lightning-fast reflexes to avoid the Lynel’s fire breath, swiping sword slashes, and devastating charges. It doesn’t help that the Lynel’s three-arrowed shock attack could hit puddles on the floor, sending an unavoidable shockwave over the player.
