Zelda: Breath Of The Wild - 5 Problems Nobody Admits Need Fixing

3. Amiibo Exclusive Unlockables

As is expected with any new Nintendo release, Amiibo functionality has a big presence in Breath of the Wild. Ultimately, it ends up acting like really expensive DLC.

The functionality of Amiibo in most Nintendo games has usually amounted to a few extra features and maybe even some different costumes. Breath of the Wild follows in this tradition but ups the stakes considerably, with Amiibo now unlocking over five different classic costumes and even the highly sought after Epona.

The problem comes from how rare the Amiibo needed are to collect. To unlock the different costumes for Link, you will need to own all of the 20th anniversary Zelda Amiibo as well as the Smash Bros. Link and Sheik Amiibo. Because of Nintendo's own limited production of Amiibo's, these rare Amiibo can cost upwards of £100.

To hide some of the coolest costumes in the game as well as the use of Link's iconic sidekick behind Amiibo is as bad as hiding it behind DLC. It doesn't help that the unlocks are randomly dropped and can take a week of scanning Amiibo to unlock. There isn't even any other way to unlock them from playing the game so if you want to give Link some of his most memorable looks, be prepared to shell out hundreds to scalpers on eBay.
