Zelda: Breath Of The Wild - 5 Problems Nobody Admits Need Fixing
2. Weapon Durability
Weapon durability is easily the most heavily contested gameplay mechanic in Breath of the Wild, drawing the ire of several reviewers and fans.
The general argument comes from the fact that almost every weapon, shield, and bow suffers from degradation. Even some of the most powerful weapons in the game have this feature. Not only that but weapons can often wear out within a couple of uses. This makes finding different weapons often seem like a temporary victory and introduces inventory management into a game that probably didn't need it.
Just because weapon durability is unbalanced doesn't mean that it has no place in the game however. In several places, it actually inspires creativity and resourcefulness. It might not even become a problem for the player if they are constantly picking up different things to use.
Saying this, there are times when it really does become annoying. Reducing the Master Sword and the Hylian Shield, two of the most iconic parts of the Zelda universe, into breakable items makes the difficult task of finding them almost seem pointless. Why bother finding them when random spears can do as much damage?
It makes weapons feel unbalanced, especially considering the difficulty of the game. The durability system doesn't need to be removed, but it does need to be balanced, either by allowing players to repair weapons or buy them back.
