Zelda: Breath Of The Wild - 8 Mind-Blowing Theories About The Story

1. Breath Of The Wild Takes Place After EVERY Timeline

For Nintendo, the Zelda timeline must be slightly maddening. Before it existed, the company would flip back and forth on whether or not there was or wasn't a “definitive” chronology. Fan speculation and questioning was so rabid, however, that they decided to finally put the question to rest, releasing the official timeline in the Hyrule Historia.

It's entirely possible, however, that Nintendo has since regretted that decision, or at the very least recognised its weaknesses when it comes to releasing future games. In Breath Of The Wild, we've seen elements from multiple Zelda titles across different timelines, including references to the architecture in Twilight Princess and the Koroks from Wind Waker. Yet there's evidence to suggest a close connection to Skyward Sword, too.

So, then: the most intriguing theory of them all:

What if Breath Of The Wild takes place in a reality in which all of the timelines have collapsed together? It would explain the differing elements, and would make sense as a celebration of the entire history of Zelda before the franchise moves permanently into a new era.

On top of that, it would also unify the timeline again, making things much easier for Nintendo going forward. Could Breath Of The Wild be the “final” game in this iteration of the series, wrapping up everything that has come before?
