10 Biggest Missed Opportunities In Horror Movie History

5. David Fincher's World War Z 2

Despite suffering through a hellish post-production, zombie blockbuster World War Z was a solid commercial success in 2013, enough that Paramount swiftly got to work on a sequel.

By 2017, the brilliant David Fincher (Se7en, The Social Network) had been hired to direct, with Brad Pitt set to return for a 2018 shoot.

But when Fincher began work on the Netflix thriller series Mindhunter, production was thrown into a tailspin, and after many months of pre-production, World War Z 2 was formally cancelled in early 2019.

It was later reported that China's ban on films featuring zombies played a major part in the cancellation, what with China being such a huge market for Hollywood movies at the time.

As much as a World War Z film might seem "beneath" a director of Fincher's world-class stature, it's also fascinating to consider what kind of zombie epic he would've made with a $200 million budget.

If nothing else, it would've been one hell of a spectacle.
