10 Everyday Objects Horror Movies RUINED For You

6. Headphones - Tormented (2009)

Tormented film
Warner Bros

An unsung black comedy slasher from the British horror scene, Jon Wright’s Tormented puts the lesser-spotted Alex Pettyfer in place as Bradley, the ring leader of a group of high school bullies who literally torment asthmatic student Darren Mullet (Calvin Dean) to death.

And it isn’t long before the group begin seeing Mullet everywhere, as his vengeful spirit returns to give each member their comeuppance. Mullet torments the bullies with everyday objects, text messages and a variety of sharp implements, picking them off one by one. But the worst revenge of all is that deployed on Nasser (James Floyd), the head honcho of the school's emos.

Nasser was only loosely involved in the events leading to Mullet’s death, so he doesn’t earn himself an outright slaying, but he still owes something to the dead. Trapped in the school's recording studio, Mullet's ghost ties Nasser to the chair and tapes his headphones to his head before cranking the volume up to 11, turning him – screaming and shaking – permanently deaf.

It’s a tough scene to watch, even for those of us not so easily disturbed, making something we all use so often seem terrifying, and ensuring next time we hit the gym we leave the cans behind.
