10 Horror Franchises Set For A Huge 2024

5. Universal Monsters

One of the finest horror movies of the past few years is Leigh Whannell's stunning The Invisible Man, with that film providing a fantastic fresh spin on H.G. Wells' classic tale of yesteryear, bringing themes of domestic abuse to the fore in truly terrifying fashion.

Of course, the wider Universal Monsters have been a beloved part of the horror genre dating back to the 1930s. And while the Tom Cruise-fronted Mummy of 2017 tanked plans for the shared Dark Universe, thankfully these famed characters will be back in the spotlight in 2024 and beyond - most notably with Whannell's The Wolf Man, which is set for an October '24 release.

Starring Possessor's Christopher Abbott and Ozark's Julia Garner, The Wolf Man will see an updated take on a character whose roots go back to 1935. Not just that, but Whannell is also working on an Invisible Man sequel, with Elisabeth Moss expected to return as Cee Kass. Likewise, Cocaine Bear's Elizabeth Banks was in place to direct and star in a spin-off, The Invisible Woman, at one point, although all has been quiet on that project for the past couple of years.

Either way, if Leigh Whannell can deliver a Wolf Man movie on a par with his Invisible Man, not only will horror fans be in for a treat, but that should hopefully spark even more interest in the greater Universal Monsters franchise.

Also, for those who lump Count Orlock in with the Universal Monsters, Robert Eggers' hotly anticipated Nosferatu - starring Bill SkarsgĂ„rd, Nicholas Hoult, Lily-Rose Depp, and Willem Dafoe - is booked in for a Christmas Day 2024 release.
