10 Horror Victims That Did Everything Right But Died Anyway

Although the majority of Halloween victims didn't deserve to be slaughtered, there's one character from the 2007 remake that stands out.

After Michael Myers butchered his dad as a child, he was sent to a psychiatric ward, where he befriended a prison guard, Ismael Cruz. Despite the evil Michael had already committed, Ismael looked after him for decades, physically and mentally. His kind gestures extended to Michael's family, since he protected his mother from a reporter who relentlessly hounded her.

Mere months before Ismael was set to retire, Michael breaks out of his cell and goes on a killing spree. Rather than running for safety, Ismael tries to talk Michael down. Though there was a time where this tactic could've worked, Michael was too far gone at this point. For this reason, it's no surprise when the hulking brute kills the only friend he ever had, even while he's screaming, "I was always good to you, Mikey!"

To be fair, Ismael's death fits the narrative, as it establishes the last vestiges of Michael's humanity are gone forever. At the same time, it's heartbreaking to see Ismael die, since he was the only person who didn't treat Michael like a monster.
