10 Horror Victims That Did Everything Right But Died Anyway

Although female heroes in horror tend to be astoundingly resilient, the protagonist of Prometheus, Elizabeth Shaw, showcased an endurance level that borders superhuman.

In this Alien prequel, Shaw learns she's infected by a mysterious lifeform moments before it hatches. Not wasting a second, Shaw has the organism surgically removed without anaesthetic. Even though the average person wouldn't have the strength to stay conscious or stand, Shaw runs away from her offspring moments after it's removed from her body.

Rather than taking a year or so to recover, Shaw is running for her life shortly after when the extra-terrestrial Engineer attacks her group. After the Engineer's ship is blasted out of the sky, it rolls towards Shaw, forcing her to sprint for her life. (Again, she just had her body opened up a day earlier.)

Before she has a moment to take a breather, Elizabeth finds herself being pursued by the Engineer again, forcing her to fight off the towering being and the lifeform she birthed earlier, which has grown to monstrous size.

Even though Prometheus seemingly ends with Shaw emerging triumphant, things don't work out for her. In Alien: Covenant, an android admits he killed Shaw to recreate the alien lifeform from her DNA. This revelation was a huge disappointment, since it meant all of Shaw's trials and tribulations amounted to nothing. As an extra slap in the face, her death occurrs off-screen.
