Initially released in 2021,  Brandon Christensen's Superhost is an utter delight; somewhat of a hidden game that deserves to be discovered by the masses.

In terms of basic plot, Superhost centres on travel vloggers Claire (Sara Canning) and Teddy (Osric Chau) as they embark on a stay at a remote property that's owned by Gracie Gillam's Rebecca. As soon as the audience meets Rebecca, it quickly becomes apparent that she's a smidge unhinged, and likewise Claire views their host's quirky personality as being the perfect driving force for those likes, subscribes, and shares.

Of course, by Superhost's final act, Rebecca has gone full-on murderous, with Claire and Teddy in her crosshairs, but the first glimpse we get at her true nature comes during an encounter with a host whom our central protagonists had previously stayed with... and gave a bad review to.

Played by genre fave Barbara Crampton, this rival host is confronted by Rebecca and told to leave the property before the police are called. So far, so calm and composed. In a split second, though, Rebecca's face fills with anger, her eyes light up, and she bellows that she'll cut Crampton's Vera open.

As the panicked Vera nervously gets in her car, Rebecca is almost in a trance; a trance she snaps out of as an elaborate, angelic smile shows on her face as she turns to talk to Claire and Teddy - showing the first chilling slip of the mask for our superhost.

How Gracie Gillam displays the varying, changing emotions of Rebecca here is utterly magnificent and thoroughly terrifying.
