10 Most Anticipated Horror Movies For The Rest Of 2025

7. Black Phone 2

Even though Scott Derrickson's 2021 horror hit The Black Phone seemed like a guaranteed one-off considering how it ends, the fact that Derrickson and co-writer C. Robert Cargill are both returning for this sequel is hugely encouraging.

Furthermore, the principal players are back - namely Mason Thames, Madeleine McGraw, and a brilliantly villainous Ethan Hawke - albeit thrown into a wildly different setting, shifting away from rural Denver to the frosty Colorado mountains.

Moreover, the eerie trailer suggests that Hawke's serial killer, The Grabber, has returned to torment his victims from beyond the grave in a manner pointedly similar to Freddy Krueger in A Nightmare on Elm Street.

It's certainly a canny way to ensure wider potential longevity for this would-be franchise, and in the very least, it looks like a sublimely creepy, visually stunning, superbly acted ride, regardless of whether it happens to be a "necessary" sequel or not.

Here's hoping Black Phone 2 expands the mythos of the original film in an entertaining and meaningful way.

Black Phone 2 releases on October 17.
