10 Most Surprising Deaths in Horror Movies

So, you cast Bill Skarsgård, the scariest of the whole Skarsgård family, as a mysterious stranger in a horror movie, and he's not the villain? Not only that, he actually gets murked at the movie's midway point? Oh, Zach Cregger, you really are a lunatic.

Barbarian's opening act is a naturally tense setup. It follows our protagonist Tess as she learns she'll be sharing an Airbnb with a stranger, Keith, leading you to think the worst. Who is this man? Will Tess be safe here? What might this guy do? 

Then, the movie flips on its axis as Keith's head is suddenly splattered against a wall by a giant, naked, monstrous woman in a hidden underground bunker. 

To call this moment surprising is an understatement, as it's more akin to whiplash. Keith's shocking, completely out-of-the-blue death perfectly sets up the real horror of Barbarian, moving away from simple, domestic tension to an over-the-top nightmare.
