Given that Jane Schoenbrun's mesmerising I Saw the TV Glow is deeply enmeshed in the subculture of '90s teen TV shows, it's all too fitting that the film features cameos from numerous prominent figures from the era.
The Adventures of Pete and Pete stars Michael C. Maronna and Danny Tamberelli show up briefly as background characters, though a more front-and-center part is afforded to Amber Benson, who played Tara on Buffy the Vampire Slayer.
About 40 minutes into the movie, Owen (Justice Smith) pays a visit to the mother of his friend Johnny Link, who to the surprise of any Buffy fan watching happens to be played by Benson.
This brief role was all the more unexpected given that Benson has been more-or-less retired from screen acting since 2019, though evidently couldn't resist the urge to appear in a film which slyly nodded to her history as a '90s teen TV icon, especially coming from a director as talented as Schoenbrun.
