10 Twisted Horror Movies That Go Way Too Far

There is an unwritten rule when it comes to violence in movies, that generally audiences can tolerate a lot more when it revolves around humans than when it involves animals. Whether you're a dog person or not, chances are you'd rather see a person killed on the big screen than man's best friend.

That hasn't stopped pets and wild animals alike from finding themselves in the midst of the action, though. Old Yeller is a classic example, and I Am Legend is arguably remembered more for Will Smith's Robert Neville smothering his own dog than the shoddy ending, which is truly saying something.

Then there is Cujo. Based on the 1981 novel by Stephen King, the film sees the titular dog contract rabies, much like Old Yeller, and turn vicious. Though, of course, it is no fault of the dog, it quickly becomes a state of kill or be killed.

It doesn't matter how many people Cujo attacked; at no point was the dog consciously malicious. Instead, it was an innocent creature overrun by the disease altering its brain. Yes, he had to be killed, but who could possibly have enjoyed such a moment, or felt anything but hollow depression afterwards?
