20 Horror Movie Sequels Releasing In 2026
6. Return of the Living Dead
The Return of the Living Dead is one of the greatest zombie films of all time, and yet has spawned four mostly-terrible sequels you couldn't be blamed for ignoring entirely.
Back in July 2023, it was announced that a franchise reboot was in the works, though this was later confirmed to be a continuation of the original picture, set in a small Pennsylvania town in Christmas 1985, a mere 18 months after the events of that first movie.
Casting-wise, veteran creature performer Alexander Ward has been tapped to portray the franchise's legendary mascot Tarman, while Devon Sawa will play one of the film's human leads, Isaac Horton, and Casimere “Cash” Jollette and Kynlee Heiman will play his daughters.
A teaser trailer showed Tarman dragging a Christmas tree through the snow, so it appears that this follow-up will be going all in on the seasonal trimmings. Here's hoping it's the first sequel in the series that truly lives up to the original.
Return of the Living Dead is expected to release in late 2026.
