17. Amazon Saves The Day - War of the Worlds
The mere existence of a reimagining of The War of the Worlds set entirely within phone and computer screens, and starring Ice Cube no less, is one big, fat WTF moment in and of itself.
This woefully undercooked mess was widely panned for basically every aspect of its production, including its embarrassingly shameless shilling for Amazon Prime.
One of the film's supporting characters, Mark (Devon Bostick), is an Amazon delivery driver who plays a vital role in saving the world when he uses a Prime Air delivery drone to quickly transport a USB stick to Ice Cube's protagonist in order to end the alien invasion. Even though the film's producers insist that Amazon didn't pay for their branding to be featured, it's incredibly tough to view its presence here charitably, especially as the movie ended up releasing on Amazon Prime Video after spending roughly five years in post-production limbo.
But the point stands: "Amazon saves the day" was always going to be a deeply groan-worthy plot point, especially while already terribly adapting a sci-fi classic.
