20 Perfect Scenes In Otherwise Terrible Horror Movies

2009's The Final Destination is almost universally acknowledged as the worst Final Destination film. It was too focused on using the 3D gimmick while failing to come up with bearable characters or memorable set-pieces. Well, aside from one, that is.

That was the death of Carter Daniels (Justin Welborn), a violent and racist tow truck driver who's possibly the single-nastiest character Death has targeted in any of these movies. And, sure enough, he gets a cathartically brutal death scene that sees this brand taking a rare foray into social commentary. 

While Carter is getting ready to burn a cross on the lawn of fellow survivor George (Mykelti Williamson), an African-American security guard who Carter wrongly blames for the death of his wife during the opening disaster, his tow truck mysteriously starts by itself. When Carter tries to stop it, the hook snags his trousers and begins to drag him along... while the petrol spills onto the road and creates a spark that sets Carter on fire. George emerges from his house just in time to see the truck explode, sending Carter's severed head landing on his front lawn. 

So concludes a darkly hilarious and gloriously brutal sequence that gave Carter the best possible comeuppance, as his death is an ironic callback to how racist lynch mobs used to execute their victims. And the cherry on top of the cake? The tow truck's stereo has turned itself on and is blasting out War's 'Why Can't We Be Friends?'.
