20 Perfect Scenes In Otherwise Terrible Horror Movies

Poorly written, lacking in excitement, and filled with bad casting choices, Prometheus is unquestionably one of the worst films associated with the Alien IP, so it's a lovely example of irony that it contains one of this brand's finest scenes. That is Dr, Elizabeth Shaw (Noomi Rapace) using an automated surgery pod to extract an alien creature growing inside her. 

This entire franchise, despite its many highs and lows, has always shown an absolute mastery of icky, profoundly uncomfortable body-horror that violates humanity's boundaries and autonomy, with such moments being especially uncomfortable because of their clear symbolic links to reproduction and sexuality. This segment, which is essentially a grotesque, fantastical abortion, encapsulates that beautifully. 

It's just brilliantly horrible stuff that'll make everyone wince with discomfort. It's excellently directed by Sir Ridley Scott (who, lest we forget, is a remarkable director even if he chooses his projects by dartboard), and Noomi Rapace excellently sells the overwhelming, claustrophobic terror of the situation. In a film that was otherwise so fatally devoid of genuine thrills, this sequence was a breath of fresh air and then some.
