20 Perfect Scenes In Otherwise Terrible Horror Movies

There is an argument to be made that Paranormal Activity was never good to begin with, but even for those who'd enjoyed the earlier instalments, the wheels well and truly came off with Paranormal Activity 4, and even the most patient viewers seemed to lose interest here. This was a ruthlessly dull found-footage horror that failed to ever do anything creative, and it ended up being one hell of a frustrating watch. 

Why? Because this movie was capable of scaring the audience, it just couldn't be bothered to do so until the last few minutes. In the movie's climax, protagonist Alex (a young Kathryn Newton in her first of many forays into horror) rushes into the house of her neighbour - who is actually Katie (Katie Featherston), the now-possessed protagonist of the original movie - in order to find her father, and what unfolds is a nerve-wracking supernatural finale, all captured in night-vision.

With its sharp jump scares - including several involving a new demonic Katie rushing at the camera - and a palpable sense of dread, this is not only an all-around cracking finale, but it also shows what the found-footage format can actually do when used properly. It places the viewer in Alex's shoes and immerses them fully in the nightmare, so that every attack and close call will make them jump out of their seats.
