10. The TERRIBLE Post-Credits Scene - Evil Dead Burn
Evil Dead Burn wasn't terrible by any means but it was the first entry into the impressively consistent franchise that felt genuinely pedestrian - a by-the-numbers Evil Dead flick that didn't nearly realise its nasty potential.
And that feeling of perfunctoriness was capped off by a head-scratcher of a post-credits scene which seemed to imply the series' more cynical ambitions moving forward.
The scene reveals the surprise resurrection of Ellie Bixler (Alyssa Sutherland), the iconic Deadite from previous film Evil Dead Rise, who returns to life at the crematorium where her unclaimed ashes are housed, as she promptly kills the crematorium manager's daughter.
This is less an enticing tease of future Evil Dead projects than a confusing, even embarrassing one.
For starters, Ellie died incredibly violently at the end of Evil Dead Rise, so her revival here invites all sorts of questions, while undermining any sense of stakes the series has.
Plus, Ellie's return rather undermines the franchise's refreshing trend towards standalone stories as of late, implying that, at some point, we're going to get a direct sequel to Evil Dead Rise.
As iconic as Ellie is, this just screams of desperation, especially when the series is doing just fine as a collection of grisly one-off horror stories.
