20 Worst Endings In Recent Horror Movies

9. Black Phone 2

The Hand That Rocks the Cradle 2025
Universal

Black Phone 2 is a passable albeit unnecessary sequel which at least serves up an amusingly over-the-top climax, where the serial killer known as The Grabber (Ethan Hawke) attacks Gwen (Madeleine McGraw), Finney (Mason Thames) and co. out on the ice.

But they manage to rob the Grabber of his power by locating the corpses of the boys he murdered decades prior, whose freed spirits then drag him into the icy depths of the frozen lake, "killing" him again.

That seems like a fine enough ending, but the film picks back up the next day, where Gwen hears a call from the camp's disused payphone, and upon answering, the caller is revealed to be her late mother Hope (Anna Lore), who was another of the Grabber's murder victims.

Hope gives her love to Gwen and Finney before saying farewell, yet as well-intended as this scene was, having the kids' mother straight-up call them from heaven to wish them well was just a step too corny.

It felt like it belonged in an entirely different movie - not one featuring a Freddy Krueger-esque dream-faring serial killer who happens to be weirdly good at ice skating.
