10 Albums That Will Make You Love Prog Rock

2. Dark Side of the Moon - Pink Floyd

For many of the prog snobs in the audience, an album like Dark Side of the Moon is almost a mandatory choice to get people into the genre. This has been a staple of rock in general for years, with a cover design that has donned many a college kid's dorm room in its day. Even with the overhyped factor that some fans give it, Pink Floyd is one of the few bands that actually deserve that kind of accolade for a record like this.

In just ten tracks, Floyd made one of the most surreal experiences that you can have while listening to a rock album, with every single song dissecting some part of your everyday life. While the context of Syd Barrett's absence was still there, you can hear them using that separation as fuel for this album, whether it be showing Syd's lunacy on the last few songs on the record or facing your own mortality in the beginning of the record.

Outside of the backstory though, there's a lot of heart behind some of these songs, using the fundamental parts of rock as a strength. While something like Money and Time might seem basic in themes, hearing them talk about making the most of what you have and calling out the greedy nature of humanity is a lot more nuanced than most people realize. Sure, it might seem basic for the general prog fans, but you sometimes need to have the building blocks so you know how to live your life later down the line.
