10 Amazing Follow Ups To Masterpiece Albums

1. Wish You Were Here - Pink Floyd

If there was any band that knew of the dangers that came with sudden fame, it would be Pink Floyd. Since their early days as a more psychedelic outfit, their baby steps as a band really took their toll on founding member Syd Barrett, who's sudden rise to fame ended with him being kicked out of the band after losing his grip on sanity. So when that same rush of fame can back around on a much bigger scale with Dark Side of the Moon, Floyd definitely had something on their mind during Wish You Were Here.

Completely burnt out with each other and not getting along all that much in the studio, this record feels like a comedown from the heaviness of the last project, as the band try to unpack all of the seedy parts of what they've been through in the past few years. On songs like Have A Cigar, you can feel the implied sliminess that comes with being treated like a commodity rather than a person, including a section where the "manager" asks which one of them is Pink.

There's more than just cynicism on here though, and the other side of the coin is devoted to Syd's contributions to the band, from the regret of him not being able to enjoy this kind of success on the title track to their 2 song Shine On You Crazy Diamond, which almost tries to encapsulate every facet of what made Syd an integral part of the band. Dark Side of the Moon may be one of the few albums that makes you feel untouchable in the public eye, but following it up with Wish You Were Here gave us a look at Floyd's real humanity.
