9. The Garden - Guns N Roses
The Use Your Illusion records from Guns N Roses marked the point where everything started to go a little bit off the rails. Though it was nice to see that the gutter rats of Los Angeles managed to grow up, you could tell they were making a fire that was going to burn out far too quickly. That didn't mean that they couldn't pull from their famous friends along the way though.
From the second it starts, The Garden feels much bigger than the album it's a part of, with a backing track that sounds like you've been dropped into the underworld. So who better to be the master of ceremonies once you get to the bottom than Alice Cooper? Just as the song really starts to get twisted, we have Alice going on a long verse about how you've landed in the belly of the beast before Slash comes in with one of the greatest guitar solos on the record.
Alice doesn't even need to sing here really, since he mostly talks his way through the verses and really gets into character before offering that final "bye bye" in the last few minutes of the song. Axl may have been high on his ego and...other things during this time, but he made sure he got his friends in the right places here.
