10 Amazing Noughties Albums No One Ever Talks About

5. Giant Drag - Hearts and Unicorns

They're the masters of song titles that have nothing to do with the actual song (see: Kevin Is Gay). They're Daniel Radcliffe's favourite band. Vocalist and guitarist (and in later years sole band member) Annie Hardy has gained a lot of attention for her eccentric personality, and has been known to handle hecklers at live shows by threatening to defecate on their heads. Yet, despite a fair amount of attention and generally favourable reviews upon the release of this album, Giant Drag have remained fairly obscure. Hearts and Unicorns is an under-recognised album if there ever was one, but it's also hard to categorise. It combines multiple genres and influences, from the gentle, dream-like shoegaze of Cordial Invitation to the raw, self-deprecating grunge of My Dick Sux. There is also an excellent cover of Chris Isaak's Wicked Game as a hidden track which, quite honestly, tops the original. Giant Drag disbanded earlier this year after completing a farewell tour of the UK. Best Tracks: Smashing, Cordial Invitation, Wicked Game
