10 Amazing Pop Songs By Rock Artists
5. Big Me - Foo Fighters
After years of being in the spotlight, Dave Grohl has practically gotten the Foo Fighters' sound damn near close to perfection. As much as he likes to dip his toes into every genre he loves, anyone coming to the Foos is expecting to hear some loud guitars and shout along choruses that make you feel like you can take on the world. So if that's where we ended up, how did it all get started with a candy jingle sounding song?
As much as Dave was into punk rock in his early days, he is an unabashed Beatles fan, and Big Me is all of that chipper rock optimism condensed into 2 minutes. With just a barebones structure, Dave already knew his way around a hook after leaving Nirvana, with every single note falling just where you want it to. From behind the kit, you can tell that he was taking notes from what Kurt Cobain was writing back in the day.
Granted, it's not like Dave was ashamed of writing something this bubblegum either. Just look at the video for it, where you see the band running through the streets with some of the dopiest smiles on their faces, brilliantly parodying the Mentos commercials that were popular around the same time. We're a ways away from something like Monkey Wrench, but it's still a fun time regardless.
