10 Amazing Songs By Terrible Artists
4. Let Her Cry - Hootie and the Blowfish
For any millennial, Hootie and the Blowfish is probably better known as your dad's favorite band. And for good reason, seeing how this is exactly the kind of chill rock music that wouldn't feel to out of place at a backyard barbecue in the middle of summer. Then again, there's a very fine line between being inoffensive and boring, and Hootie has been straddling both ends for their entire career.
One thing you can't take away though is Cracked Rearview, which sold millions of copies off the strength of Let Her Cry. It's not that hard to see why either, with the melody being a perfect little snapshot of what it's like to be in a relationship that's slowly falling apart. Even with Darius Rucker's more melodramatic singing, it actually works in this context, sounding like he's on the verge of tears himself as he sees his ex turn back to her vices to get over everything.
If you look through that rearview nowadays though, there's a reason why they fell out pretty hard, with most of their later years being either too boring to focus on or trying way too hard to recapture their past glory. Even if we have to sit through songs like Tucker's Town live, we can at least have this jam to shamelessly hold our lighters up to.
