After already spoiling their chances in Amsterdam when half of the band got detained on a ferry, they seemed to throw away another one by turning in a terrible set at the Whiskey a Go Go in Los Angeles, with half of the band out of their mind on crystal meth. While this remains one of the darkest times in the band's history, it did lead to Noel Gallagher writing one of the best songs of his career.

Looking to get away from the rest of the band and even dissolving the group altogether, Noel fled LA and went back up to San Francisco, where he met up with a girl that he had met a few weeks before. Spending days playing guitar and going out of his mind on drugs, this old flame actually managed to help him get back on his feet, convincing him to come back to the band and nursing him back to health.

Though the vibe was definitely different when Noel returned to the group, Talk Tonight is a recounting of those few days, with Noel thanking this girl for saving his life and helping him get back on track to leading one of the best bands in the world. It's insane to think that a song this heavy would have been thrown out as a B-side to a single, but maybe it was too vulnerable a song for Noel to put out on its own.
