10 Artists That Will Not Defend Their Own Albums
1. And Justice For All - Metallica
Some of the most successful rock records of all time tend to only sound good at the moment. Even though they may have sold a ton of albums back in the day, it's not like a band like Motley Crue have fashion that have aged well over the passage of time. You can still listen for nostalgia's sake, but in the case of And Justice For All, Metallica just hear something super dated when hearing the playback.
That's not to say that any of these songs are bad. In fact, this might be the most technically skilled Metallica album ever made, taking the long stretched out songs of the last few records and making them into near 10 minute exercises. While this is tiptoeing right to the line of prog metal, the biggest detractor for this album has to be the production, with the guitars having a certain amount of crunch but virtually no bass to speak of, as the band was still hazing newcomer Jason Newsted at the time.
Their later producer wasn't even shy about it either, with future Black Album helmsman Bob Rock saying that the record doesn't even begin to capture what the band sound like whenever they play live. While Metallica would later show us that they had not even begun to go down the bad production rabbit hole with St. Anger, it's just a shame to have classic songs like One and Harvester of Sorrow sounding like demos.
