When the rock band Van Halen were inducted into the hall of fame, they were going through a lengthy rough patch at the time. Not only that, but one of the band members was very anti-Hall-of-Fame. Alas, the band were still inducted, with Anthony and Sammy Hagar attending the ceremony. The two musicians highlighted it as a bittersweet moment in their career due to the events leading up to the award ceremony.

At the time, Eddie Van Halen (guitarist) was in rehab for a third time after battling addiction since the age of 12. Michael Anthony had recently been fired from the group and was replaced by Eddie's son Wolfgang and David Lee Roth really didn't like the Hall of Fame. At the time, the band were planning a reunion, but due to the whole drama fest, they had to postpone. David was still very vocal about how much he disliked the plan for the induction and ultimately refused to attend in the end.

A bit of a messy debacle for the band, but it hasn't stopped them from performing together, and they still have a spot in the Hall of Fame.
