10 Bad Songs From Great Bands
4. Metallica - Purify (St. Anger, 2003)
St. Anger may contain its fair share of snooze-inducing tracks, but among the worst offenders is the awfully tedious Purify. Thrown together following former bassist Jason Newsteds departure from the band and vocalist James Hetfield's stay in rehab, it is fair to say the record was produced in a pretty difficult place.
Feeling like a bad trip of deja vu, Purify lacks substance with its main riff remaining firmly anchored throughout the entirety of its 5 minute plus duration. Its one-dimensional chorus also severely lacks imagination with Hetfield continually wailing its title until we're lulled into a deep sleep Once you've passed the first minute and a half of this snoozer you'll have uncovered all that it has to offer.
