10 Bafflingly Terrible Songs That Were Somehow Incredibly Successful

7. Lil' Wayne -€“ Lollipop

The correlation between €œsuccessful€ and €œannoying€ is strikingly high. It seems that the general public values memorable songs over standard songs nine out of ten times, even when that memorability comes at the cost of being able to listen to said song without wanting to stab yourself. Never was this more apparent than in 2008 when Lil Wayne released Lollipop from his sixth studio album The Carter III.

In fairness to Lollipop, the tune is decently catchy, a rather standard electropop/r&b single, but it's the combination of Lil Waynes' unique vocals and constant autotune that makes the whole thing so grating. For the vast majority of its run time Lollipop sounds like its been performed by a robot designed to churn out catchy singles, except the robot started malfunctioning just before beginning to play.

Yet Lollipop's commercial success and popularity is absolutely huge. The song was the best-selling digital single worldwide in 2008, and since then its been certified five times platinum in the United States. Really, America?
