10 Bands Destroyed By Just One Album

5. Use Your Illusions - Guns N Roses

Guns N Roses were everyone's favorite new band at the dawn of the 90's. Their 1987 debut Appetite for Destruction left all their hair metal brethren in the dust, with songs that combined punk energy with an undeniable rock and roll swagger. Though it would be difficult for the band to top perfection, frontman Axl Rose decided to go for broke regardless on the band's double record Use Your Illusion.

Across 2 CDs, this record is full of choice GNR cuts while also showing a more lofty side of the band, with Rose commanding the keyboards and eventually bringing in orchestral accompaniment and a few celebrity rockers to provide their talents.

Upon release, the album sold in droves, but no one could have known that the writing was on the wall. Since the band's sound had ballooned, the rest of the group found themselves playing second fiddle to Axl's grand ambitions. The touring cycle that ensued was so rigorous that guitarist Izzy Stradlin quit midway through, leaving Gilby Clarke to take his place. By the time the band finished the tour, the dream was over. Before the band could think of making a follow-up, remaining members Slash and Duff McKagan had had enough and quit, leaving Axl as the only original member of Guns N Roses to carry on the name.
