10 Bands That Everyone Loves To Hate
1. Creed
Creed has made quite the journey from being just a menial post grunge act in the mid '90s. For as much as people like to dunk on the band's classic material, albums like My Own Prison showed that there was a little glimmer of hope peeking through the cracks at one point. Once Human Clay came out though, it all went to hell with Scott Stapp's yarling.
It's not like the talent isn't there though, with the rest of the band's later work with Alter Bridge making for some of the greatest hard rock of the past decade. However, the overarching plight of Stapp has kneecapped pretty much every single song the band has ever put out.
Though there were a few shots taken at Stapp's Christian rock lyrics, but the real problems have less to do with the message and all to do with the macho affectation that Eddie Vedder already had trademarked.
It's alright to be open about positive themes in your music, but when your music is this lacklustre, you're left with a lot of great pieces that make for a grotesque whole. There are probably far less talented bands out there, but for as big as they were, Creed is the sound of rock from the perspective of someone who has never heard rock before.
