10 Bands That Made The Same Album Over Again

1. The Beach Boys

When rock and roll was first getting birthed, the Beach Boys' Pet Sounds was the first real gamechanger we were given. Along with some of the Beatles' greatest works, Brian Wilson's brainchild took the clean cut image of America's Band and turned it inside out, which made for some of the most earnest love songs ever created like God Only Knows and Wouldn't It Be Nice. It's a good thing too considering that the last few albums were the same boilerplate pop rock of the decade.

Up until Brian put his foot down, a lot of the more innovative sides of the Beach Boys' sound was an uphill battle, with Mike Love instructing him to not mess with the formula. Even with Brian's manager father breathing down his neck, the first handful of Beach Boys records were the same surf rock that we got used to on the first album. Let's face it...if you heard Surfin USA once, you've heard them all, with most of these songs having the same type of generic mix of Chuck Berry chords and bright eyed vocals that you'd expect.

It wasn't until Beach Boys Today where things started to turn around, as songs like She Knows Me Too Well hinting at what would come later on Pet Sounds. Though this period of creativity would eventually cost Wilson his sanity, at least he was able to fulfill his vision instead of playing California sunshine for the rest of his life.
