10 Bands That Made The Same Song Twice
9. Pink Maggit - Deftones
Not every band is known to be a one take wonder whenever they enter the studio. You're going to always take a couple of passes at a song to make sure that you bring the best performance that you can onto the final tape. And Deftones really thought they had the best take of Pink Maggit, until their label decided that they should take one more pass before completing the record.
Since the rest of White Pony was ready to go, the main complaint from the big wigs was that there was no immediate single on the record. In an attempt to troll their bosses, Chino Moreno initially went back to the drawing board and created a version of Pink Maggit that was a goof on the rap rock songs of the time, seemingly to prove a point of how hacky these songs can sound. What Chino meant as a joke turned out to be dollar signs in the eyes of the label, who slapped it onto every copy of White Pony as the album opener.
Of all the decisions in the band's tenure, Chino has always admitted that the pop version sucks, only realizing that he had compromised when he saw it released to the public. Now we have a Deftones song that wouldn't be out of place next to Limp Bizkit on the radio...just like everyone wanted?
