10 Beatles Songs Not Written By The Beatles
2. Go Let It Out - Oasis
Oasis were never exactly subtle about their admiration for the Beatles. From the way they wrote songs to the fact that they put Beatles song titles in their lyrics, it’s clear that these guys are the most logical descendents of the Fab Four. Though songs like “Don’t Look Back In Anger” and “Wonderwall” gave them the mammoth hits that their idols had, it wasn’t until “Go Let It Out” that they really captured that ‘60s spirit.
Coming off of Standing on the Shoulder of Giants, this song is one of the band’s greatest psychedelic pastiches, as the track blossoms out from just a guitar to including fuzz bass and jangly guitar parts. What really puts the track over the top though is the use of the Mellotron in the chorus, where you literally feel like you’ve been transported back to Strawberry Fields, with Liam Gallagher serving as your interim John Lennon.
This song also shows the Gallaghers inheriting the freewheeling spirit the Beatles had in the studio, with them jamming in everything from multiple guitar parts to a prolonged whistle that leads you back into the final chorus. Oasis may have been fine with being called Beatles worshippers, but their plagiaristic tendencies are almost worth it for getting a song that was this good.
