10 Best Blink-182 Songs
6. Stay Together For The Kids – Take Off Your Pants And Jacket (2001)
‘Stay Together for the Kids’ is one of the band’s more sombre tunes given that it grapples with divorce and how this can effect children.
The opening guitar riff is certainly not typical for Blink-182. It’s melodic, melancholy, and does not feature any distortion.
Said riff then transitions into a slow verse in which Hoppus delves into the song’s very serious theme against a low-key instrumental.
The chorus, on the other hand, hits the ear with plenty of power as the clean guitar tone becomes distorted and Delonge’s vocals sour with pain and rage. It’s this sharp contrast between the verse and the chorus that makes this song such a standout track from the band.
Moreover, both Delonge and Hoppus grew up with divorced parents, and as such, the anguish from both vocalists really hits home. Indeed, ‘Stay Together for the Kids’ is one of the most striking songs the band have ever created.
