10 Best Breakup Albums Of All Time
5. 808s and Heartbreak - Kanye West
Every now and again, an artist will undergo so much pain that they have to let it out in song. Though there may be some healthier way of dealing with emotions, sometimes it's better to scream out your pain rather than letting it stir inside you for the rest of your life. Even if it's someone as notorious as Kanye West, you can sometimes create the greatest art out of tremendous pain.
In the middle of the tour for Graduation, Kanye lost his mother, while also dealing with his highly public separation from his wife Amber Rose. Still reeling from both shattered relationships, 808s feels like the internal struggle that Kanye has going on in his head, with layers of dense production that makes you feel both uncomfortable and numb at the exact same time. This was also the first time Kanye sings throughout the entire record, resorting to Auto-tune to correct his faults.
While the record itself does have a few scattered moments, the real effect really paints the picture of pure heartache, with the strings and heavy production making you feel truly alone in the mix. Even though Kanye may not have wanted to bear this kind of pain for as long as he did, sometimes you just need to let it out in order to reach your true happiness.
