10 Best Breakup Albums Of All Time
4. Let It Be - The Beatles
Out of all the breakups that artists sing about on record, it's always closer to home when it's with old friends. As much as your significant other may hit you right in the feels, the idea of your best friends slowly drifting apart over time is the one sting that you can never fully control. So what if you take that, and tie it to one of the greatest bands to have ever walked the Earth?
Even though the era of the Beatles started out as good natured fun, it's hard not to look back on Let It Be with a sort of jaded melancholy. Sure, the album might have a lot of hints of brilliance, but the way that they actually managed to get there just seems oddly mean spirited in between the sessions. Originally intending to get back to their roots, this jam session style of record is just putting a happy face on a bad situation, with both Lennon and McCartney acting like a couple that were in the middle of divorce proceedings.
It also probably didn't help that McCartney decided to announce the end of the Beatles midway through the promotional cycle, leaving many to wonder if he was just trying to promote his new solo album. Although this is the true final moments of the Fab Four, Abbey Road still deserves to be the true last act for the fans.
